Each 23andMe account is associated with an email address. You must confirm your ownership of the email address used to create your account and your ability to receive messages at that address. You are required to confirm your email address during the creation of a new account, or if you had not previously confirmed your address on an existing account. You will also need to confirm your email address anytime you update your account email.
Please note that the information in this article only applies to accounts that have not been created through a third party service (e.g., via the “Sign up with Google” link). If you set up your 23andMe account using a third party service (e.g., Google), you will not be required to confirm your account email address.
If you have started creating a new account, you will be prompted to confirm your email address before being able to register a kit. After entering your new account information, you will see the following message:
An email titled "Finish Creating Your Account" will be sent to your email address. Account-related emails are addressed from email@example.com. Follow the prompt in the email to confirm your email address and activate your account.
Email confirmation is also required if you change the email address associated with your account. You can change your email address from the Settings menu.
After entering your new email address and password, you will receive an email to your new account email address titled "Finish Updating Your Email Address". Follow the prompts in the email to confirm your new email address and access your account.
